PRISON ISLAND

Just a short boat ride from Stone Town, Prison Island is a popular day-trip destination known for its beautiful waters and fascinating history.

Why Prison Island?

Despite its name, the island never served as a prison; instead, it was used as a quarantine station. Today, it’s home to a giant tortoise sanctuary, where you can meet and feed Aldabra tortoises that are over 100 years old.

The island also offers excellent snorkeling opportunities with clear waters and vibrant coral reefs just offshore.

A visit to Prison Island combines history, wildlife, and marine adventure, making it a perfect addition to your Zanzibar itinerary..
